POSITION:
PRESIDENT

ACCOUNTABLE TO:
BOARD OF DIRECTORS

JOB SUMMARY:
The President will be responsible for providing dynamic, high visibility leadership and direction that positions the Chamber as the region’s top business advocacy organization while fostering a climate of collaboration and partnership towards accomplishing the community wide goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in conjunction with the Board of Directors to further the vision and strategy for the Rowan Chamber of Commerce to succeed.
  • Continue the strong business advocacy role of the Chamber to maintain a healthy business climate in our community.
  • Continue to be the bridge between the business community and education/workforce development partners.
  • Provide leadership for staff and volunteers in membership investment and non-dues income sources of revenue.
  • Manage financial resources to ensure that the Chamber is being a good steward of our member investments.​​​

PLANNING, MANAGEMENT, FINANCE AND MISCELLANEOUS RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning
In partnership with the Board of Directors, the President is responsible for continually monitoring the purpose, structure, and programs of the Chamber. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing an ongoing annual planning process that includes periodic analysis of the environment as well as a review of mission and goals and the establishment and evaluation of objectives for all Chamber activities.
  • Developing an organizational structure that will effectively carry out the Chamber's purpose.
  • Recruiting high quality community leaders and staff to the organization.
Management
The President is "Corporate Secretary" of the organization and responsible for guiding the development of the Chamber's Strategic Plan which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Directing and implementing, with the aid of staff and volunteer workers, all the annual activities of the Chamber.
The President is responsible for coordinating the management of all Chamber committees. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Assisting the Board of Directors in selecting qualified personnel for committee work.
  • Coordinating processing of appointments to committees.
  • Coordinating and organizing specific projects for committees.
  • Reviewing proposals or projects and recommending proper committee assignments if appropriate.
The President is responsible for hiring, supervising, and training Chamber staff.

Finance
The President is responsible for the financial integrity of the organization including, but not limited to:
  • Managing the Chamber's finances to include preparation of the annual budget in conjunction with the Treasurer; submitting budget to the Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors; approving specific expenditures as part of the approved budget; directing office maintenance including replacement of equipment and purchase of additional equipment; directing preparation of financial statements on a monthly basis; signing or counter-signing checks in accordance with Finance Policy documents.
  • Supervising financial management of any staff with assigned duties for this area of responsibility.
Miscellaneous
Miscellaneous duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining a professional self-development program which includes professional readings, seminars, etc. that can develop abilities to the fullest potential.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
The President's performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the Immediate Past Chair and Current Chair of the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least five years senior leadership experience
  • Salary commensurate with experience
