Candidate Forum

Rowan County voters will have a chance to hear directly from the candidates for county commission before casting their ballots this fall.

The Rowan Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum Tuesday, October 13, at 6 p.m. at the Norvell Theatre, 135 E. Fisher St. A meet-and-greet with the candidates, hosted by the Rowan Young Professionals, will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the theater lobby.
 
The six candidates invited to participate are Hannah Addair, Karla Foster Leonard, Jason Hinson, Daniel Lancaster, Ray Pope, and Alissa Redmond. This year’s forum will follow a different format from last year. Each candidate will take the stage individually and have a few minutes to answer questions, giving voters an opportunity to hear from each person directly.
 
Dr. Michael Bitzer of Catawba College will moderate the forum and pose questions submitted by the public. Questions may be sent to the Salisbury Post at editor@salisburypost.com by Friday, October 9.
 
The forum is sponsored by the Salisbury Post, Miller Davis, Piedmont Players, and the Rowan Chamber. It is intended to help voters learn where the candidates stand on issues affecting Rowan County residents and businesses ahead of the November 3 general election. Early voting begins October 15 and runs through the end of the month. The Chamber is a nonpartisan organization and does not endorse candidates.
 
Campaign buttons are permitted, but signage, campaign materials, and mascots will not be allowed inside the building. Candidates will not have tables to display materials, and campaign signs should not be placed on the property. Disruptive behavior, harassment, or intimidation will not be tolerated.
 
The Chamber organizes candidate forums with guidance from its Business Advocacy Committee. Open to all Chamber members, the committee helps foster communication with local, state, and federal leaders about issues affecting Rowan County’s businesses and residents.
