No Spectators at Dragon Boat Race on July 25

Salisbury, NC (June 11, 2020) -- The Rowan Chamber’s Dragon Boat Race will be held on July 25 at the Shrine Club on High Rock Lake; however, without spectators. Dragon Boat teams will be grouped together (less than 25 people) and spaced six feet apart from other teams. Only the official Dragon Boat participants needed to run the race will be allowed onto the property. The championship race will be live streamed for community watch parties.  
  

This year’s Dragon Boat event will focus on the team building competition,” said Chamber President Elaine Spalding. She continued, “We are taking every precaution available to keep our competitors, sponsor partners and vendors safe. This year’s event will look a little different, due to current North Carolina restrictions. We thank our sponsors, teams and especially our volunteers for working with us as our plans have changed.”
Below are the changes to this year’s event:
  • Dragon Boat sponsors, teams, vendors, volunteers, and staff will be the only people allowed at the athletic competition event this year.
  • Spectators will not be allowed this year due to current gathering restrictions. We encourage spectators to view via watch parties or by boat from High Rock Lake.
  • Teams will practice on Thurs., July 23 and Fri., July 24 with the Dragon Boat Races on Sat., July 25, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Teams are limited to a max of 25 team members.
  • Sponsors, Teams and Vendors will be assigned tent spaces according to social distancing guidelines.
  • Pan Am Dragon Boat Company will provide enhanced cleaning protocols for sanitizing boats, paddles, and life jackets. Pan Am will also manage social distancing within the team marshalling areas.
  • Additional hand wash stations will be located near the marshalling area, vendor areas and restroom facilities. “Be an Original” hand sanitizers will also be available.
  • Anyone experiencing ANY symptoms including coughing, fever, shortness of breath, should remain at home. Practice your three W’s.  
  • Select food and beverage vendors will be in attendance and placed according to social distancing guidelines. Vendors are required to provide their own PPE.
  • “Be an Original” business resource kit social distancing stickers will be used for vendor lines.  
  • No pets or coolers are allowed on the Shrine Club property.
The Shrine Club is located on High Rock Lake (6480 Long Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC).  A limited number of sponsor, team and volunteer opportunities are available for the event. Sign up by June 26 on the Dragon Boat web site: www.rowanchamberdragonboat.org
